A Desperate Student’s Journey to Digital Marketing Mastery

Once upon a time, a young woman had just finished high school, and it was time for the million-dollar question; “Now what?”

Very inspired by Tony Stark and armored with a childish dream to work in the robotics industry—despite knowing close to nothing about it—she made the decision to major in mechatronics engineering. And since then, a story full of ups and downs had just begun; the protagonist of that story being nobody but me

My freshman year was terrible. Every day, I used to sit in lectures for endless hours, and then go home with only one thought in mind, “What if engineering wasn’t for me?”

I was passionate about technology since forever, but the problem was that I loathed mechanics. Yet my stubborn side that kept telling me, “We got this,” won, and I went on with the infinity loop that was my life.

Until one day, a student organization that specialized in technology and business caught my attention and I decided to join them.

The one thing I loved more than technology was writing. And fortunately, they were looking for a content writer, so they put me on the marketing team.

At first, I thought marketing was just a synonym for sales. However, after attending my first session about marketing, I discovered that I was entirely mistaken, and my eagerness to learn more about the world of digital marketing increased.

Because of that, I started teaching myself the basics through online courses, and I read every article and book my hands fell on.

My effort paid off when I became the leader of the marketing team—something that played a huge role in my learning journey. For three years, I have deployed many successful campaigns that reached thousands of people online and received hundreds of engagements.

My passion for digital marketing never died, and I started to consider the possibility of a more serious career and to take my first step into the freelancing world.

Because of that, I started looking for a credible resource that would put me on the right track. But with so many offline and online resources, things got overwhelming.

Until finally, I heard about the FWD: Digital Marketing Nanodegree by Udacity, and it was ideal for what I was looking for. I mean, what can be better than a course presented by some of the masters in the industry and possibly have a well-recognized certificate!

In addition, the course is well-structured with valuable, hands-on information, projects, and a very helpful community. And on top of that, it’s put together by industry leaders like Facebook, Google, Hootsuite, and HubSpot.

Ever since I signed up for the course, I have been learning something new every day, and I’m looking forward to where this stepping stone is going to take me.

And who knows, maybe in the future, I will be able to get the best of both worlds and seek a career that involves both marketing and engineering.
